The Via Claudia Augusta – The First Imperial Road across the AlpsAfter two thousand years of history, the Via Claudia Augusta, the ancient Roman road, which led from the Po River lowlands and the Adriatic Sea all the way to Bavaria and the Danube, is enjoying a renaissance. It is a symbolic route that spans three nations, each with its own varied landscape and traditions, artistic treasures and culinary delights, marked by more approachable, youthful and ecologically sustainable tourism.
The
Via Claudia August cycling path leads from
Augsburg to
Venice, however, our guests feel most comfortable from the Resia Pass to Merano.
One of the most varied parts of the path from a landscape point of view is mostly cycled downhill from
Resia to
Merano.
From the Glacier to the Vine - this slogan certainly keeps its’ promises. From Resia past the Resia Lake and the Muta Lake you can experience a quick downhill run to Burgusio, Clusio and Laudes with an
amazing view of the Ortler Mountain. Then from the historic town of Glorenza, the cycling path crosses the Venosta Valley to Vezzano.
From Vezzano the path leads through the
Venosta apple valley to Merano.
The
Venosta Taxi Service also transports larger groups with their bikes to Resia, and you will have a free road. If you prefer to cycle upwards, once you’ve arrived at Resia, you can take record of a difference in altitude of almost 1,000 metres and 55 km of length into your route book.
