HIKING TIPS
DREILÄNDERECK HIKE (THREE-COUNTRIES TRAIL)
Walking time: approx. 4 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 700 m
Break stop: Resia Hut
Short description: From the old village in Resia (1,500 m) to the valley station of the circular cable railway Belpiano. From here onwards along the Roia Road to the first bridge across the Roia river. Follow the military road, which leads you through the forest and past some meadows to the Resia Hut. From here take slightly ascending path no. 4 to the Tre Confini Mountain (2,181m).
HIKE TO THE CIMA UNDICI PEAK
Walking time: approx. 5.5 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 1,500 m
Break stop: Haideralm Hut
Short description: From S. Valentino (1,420 m) via Plagött and the "Obere Wiese" (upper meadow) on path no. 9 to the Haideralm Hut. Follow this path in the direction of Monte Rosso. There is a slight ascent to the Haider Gap (2,742 m) and from there to the Cima Undici Peak (2,926 m). On the last 200 metres before the peak a secure step is required.
SESVANNA HUT-UINA RAVINE HIKE
Walking time: approx. 5.5 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 1,100 m
Break stop: Slingia Hut, Sesvanna Hut
Short description: From Slingia walk through the upper Slingia Valley past the Alp Planbell Hut to the Sesvanna Hut. From here, follow the signs to the Slingia Pass, the border to Switzerland, and from there across the Gola down to a unique 900 metre long path, which was cut into the rock between 1908 and 1910. Return to your starting point on the same path.
MONTE SOLE HIKE - KÖFLPLATTE
Walking time: approx. 4 hours

Break stop: Alpine Hut Ortlerblick and Alpine Hut Birkenhof
Short description: Walk form Sluderno to the Gial Farm (1,543 m) and from there to the Platzpass-Boden to your right, which offers a great panoramic view. Up to the „Äußere Berghütte“ (outer hut), turn right and take the less steep path to a large clearing. Here, turn left and walk in the direction of Köpfelplatte, heading upwards to the edge of the forest and the Kalterer Mountain (2 crucifixes with a fountain). From here, walk through the forest to the “Innere Berghütte” (inner hut) at the large clearing.
GLURNSER-KÖPFL HIKE
Walking time: approx. 6 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 1,500 m
Break stop: no huts along the way
Short description: From the small town of Glorenza up to the car park at the S. Martino church at the bottom of the Glorenza main mountain. Across a steep path through the forest, past the clearances of Platzutt and Platzmetz to the Glorenza Hut with a splendid panoramic view and another hour to the peak (2,359 m). Return to the starting point on the same route.
ESELSWEG HIKE
Walking time: approx. 2.5 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 250 m
Break stop: no huts along the way
Short description: Start in Tubre in Via della Chiesa (Church Road) on path no. 6a to the Tella Farms and you reach the Murata Farm. On the traces of the knights, follow the ascending path to the castle ruins of Rotund (1,500 metres). From here, take the Eselweg (donkey path) through fields and meadows to Turnauna. Descent - pass the mudflow protection dams to the fields and then take the path for 200 metres in the direction of Rivaira, until you reach the link to the irrigation channel (no. 8). Return to Tubre on this path.
ON THE TRACES OF JULIUS PAYER
Walking time: 2 hours (Tabaretta Hut) 3 hours (Payer Hut)
Difference in altitude: approx. 1,150 m
Break stop: Tabaretta Hut, Payer Hut
Short description: From the village of Solda, follow the path to the old chapel. Turn onto the forest path, cross the moraine of the Vedretta Marlet Mountain until you reach Marlet Mountain, where you will see the Tabaretta Hut (2,556 m). Via the Forcella dell’ Orso (Bear’s Gap) follow the ridge between Solda and Trafoi until you reach the Payer Hut (3,029 m), which is right at the entrance point to the huge King Ortles Glacier. Breathtaking view!
GOLDEN LAKE PATH (LAGO D’ORO)
Walking time: approx. 4 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 600 m
Break stop: Forcola Hut
Short description: From the Forcola Hut above Trafoi, via the smugglers path past the Lago d’Oro (Golden Lake) up to the height of the Stelvio Pass. Great round view of the King Ortles, the Garibaldi Peak, the serpentine road and the Stelvio Pass summer ski resort. Back to Trafoi with the public bus from 23rd of June to 10th of September possible.
ARCAICO PATH
Walking time: approx. 4-5 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 600 m
Break stop: Restaurants in Stelvio
Short description: From Prato in the direction of Agumes after crossing the bridge over the Solda River then immediately to your left. From here, past the hamlet of Gargitz to the Patzleid Farm. Walk along the forest path and path no. 11 (not too steep) until you reach Gaschlin and from here descend to Stelvio. In Stelvio you can either take the public bus connection to Prato or take path number 9 in the direction of Ponte Stelvio. At the first houses turn left and then take the mountain path until you reach Patzleid and Prato.
MONTE SOLE HIKE (SUNNY MOUNTAIN)
Walking time: approx. 2.5 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 400 m
Break stop: Sonneck Restaurant – Allitz, Leitn Ranch - Lasa Short description: From the Silandro sports and leisure centre walk in the direction of the Schlandrauntal Valley until reaching a junction to the “passeggiata al sole” (sunny promenade - formerly a path along the irrigation channels). Follow this promenade until you reach the start of Ilswaal (path no. 5) and walk in the direction of the S. Egidio Chapel. Then walk in a westerly direction, slightly uphill, until you reach the Zaalwaal junction near the ruins of the S. Giorgio Chapel. Take the Zaalwaal, pass the sports pitch of Corces, walk in the direction of Allitz (path no. 15). Make your way through the village, across the bridge in a southerly direction through the Allitz forest in the direction of Lasa. Here, you can either take the side road or turn right in the direction of the Loretzer Boden and the Lasa sports pitch and through a subway until you reach the village centre of Lasa, which is famous for its marble.
MONTE TRAMONTA HIKE
Walking time: approx. 5 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 1,500 m
Break stop: Haslhof Farm, Covelano Hut, Klein Alm
Short description: From Covelano 8 km by car to the Haslhof Farm. Take path no. 2 along the edge of the forest until you reach the small alpine meadow of Weißkaser and walk on through the forest until you come to a building (Kohlplatz), where the path leads you into the forest path. Follow this path to the Covelano Hut. Watch out for the marble quarry. Partly on a non-asphalted road and partly on a steep path, you walk uphill, passing the workers' canteen, until you come close to the marble quarry (which is not accessible). If you keep to the right you will, however, have a great view of the marble quarry. On your return you take path no. 10 to the Klein Alm, then to the farmhouses of Patsch and Vernatsch. Continue on path no. 3 back to Covelano.
HIKE FROM HUT-TO-HUT
Walking time: approx. 3h 45min.
Difference in altitude: approx. 560 m
Break stop: Martello Hut, Nino Corsi Hut
Short description: From Hotel Paradies in the upper Martello Valley, take path no. 37 and follow it until you reach the “Ultner Markt” and on to the Martello Hut. Now take path no. 103 and descend to the old dam wall and on to the Nino Corsi Hut via path no. 150. From here return to your starting point.
HIKE ALONG THE IRRIGATION CHANNELS AT THE TRAMONTA MOUNTAIN
Walking time: approx. 3 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 150 m
Break stop: Putzenhof Hut - Morter
Birreria (beer cellar) - Laces
Short description: Starting point of this idyllic hike is the ice stadium in Laces. Follow path no. 5 in the direction of Morter, a beautiful new path along irrigation channels (drained) and the Montani di Sopra Castle. Visit to the S. Stefano Chapel in the castle is possible. Return to Laces: Take the path in the direction of the Montani di Sotto ruins to the wooden bridge and the Birreria (beer cellar) and the Mareinwaal or through Plafad to Laces. Alternative longer route: Montani di Spora Castle – descend to the provincial road to the Martello Valley, cross the road and follow the drained Plima River in the direction of Martello until reaching the bridge. Short ascent to the romantic Rautwaal path to Morter. Return to Laces via the above mentioned paths.
MALGA DI TARRES, MALGA DI LACES & TÖBRUNN HIKING PARADISE
Walking time: Monte di Laces mountain station (45min)
Töbrunn mountain station (1.5 h.)
Tarres Lake mountain station (1 h.)
Difference in altitude: approx. 740 m (mountain station-valley station)
Break stop: Mountain restaurant, Malga di Tarres, Malga di Laces, Töbrunn
Short description: With the Monte di Tarres cable car to the mountain station (1,940m). Starting point for idyllic hikes: Tarres Lake (1,829 m) with descent to the valley station; Malga di Laces (1,716 m) with ascent via a forest road. The Malga di Tarres is also an ideal starting point for the Orecchio di Lepre Glacier (3,256 m), the Kofelraster Lakes (2,405 m) and to the transient to the Ultimo Valley.
HIKE AT LACES MONTE SOLE (SUNNY MOUNTAIN)
Walking time: Laces-S. Martino (3 hours.)
Laces-Platz (1.5 hours)
Laces-Ratschill (1.5 hours)
Difference in altitude: approx. 1,100 m Laces-S Martino
Break stop: Platz and Ratschill Huts
Short description: The fascinating Monte Sole di Laces mountain offers numerous and impressive hiking paths. Starting point is the roundabout in Laces path no. 8 (cup-marked stone) to Platz (1,225 m), Platzair (1,650 m), S. Martino a. m. (1,740 m). Possibility of ascending Vermoi Peak (2,930 m), Niederjöchl (2,662 m) and transient to the Senales Valley.
Or: Latschanderwaal (path along the ancient irrigation channels)-suspension bridge-Annabergböden to Ratschill (1,285 m), stations of the cross to S. Martino. Descending: alpine panoramic path to Silandro or Ratschill-Lottersteig-Coldrano to Laces. From Laces newly built cable car to S. Martino.
ALPINE ROSE HIKE TO THE ZIRMTAL LAKES
Walking time: approx. 6 hours
Difference in altitude: approx. 1,200 m
Break stop: Marzoner Hut, Zirmtal Hut
Short description: Starting point is the car park at the Schlums River in Montefranco (1,400 m) above Castelbello. From here via path no. 7 to the Marzoner Hut (1,600 m). Just above the hut, at the fork, take path no. 18 to your left and ascend a forest path to approximately 1,800 metres. Continue your walk through the beautiful landscape to the Zirmtal Lakes and a small alpine hut at an altitude of 2,114 metres. It is possible to extend your excursion by taking path no. 18a up to a height of 2,588 metres. Return on the same route as the ascent or via Montefontana (path no. 9) to Ciardes.
