The
Ortles area in the
Stelvio National Park is a first-class holiday resort, just like the entire Upper Venosta Valley.
Unspoiled nature all around the
Ortles amidst a majestical mountain world. The eternal ice of 14 mountains above 3,000 metres glazes in the sun. Above all
King Ortles, with its 3,905 m
South Tyrol's highest mountain.
In short: A holiday paradise which can hardly be found anywhere else, which amazes all
nature lovers and which races the pulse of hikers and mountaineers. A lot of sun and a mild climate.
Here, summer means hiking and excursion time, time for dreaming and for skiing. And there is another superlative: The
Stelvio Pass (2,757-3,400m) is the
largest summer ski resort in Europe. 20 km of groomed slopes, amongst which one high-speed slope, an 8 km long cross country track, two cable cars and eight chairlifts guarantee for great skiing fun in summer.
The
Stelvio Pass skiing paradise can be accessed via one of the most renowned alpine roads, the Stelvio Pass Road. The construction of the second highest pass road in the alpine region was completed in 1836. 46 hairpin turns and some serpentines which are literally "glued" to steep precipices with height protection walls, lead up to the Stelvio Pass (2,760 m).
Here, the skiing season lasts from May to November. Insiders talk about the “fifth season”. The pass remains closed during winter.
